#BlackNeuroRollCall

#NeuroRacism
Join us for a day of learning about the historical impact of racism on neuro-related fields, including a panel with expert speakers. Participate in the discussion by sharing biases you’ve encountered in neuro, as well as acknowledging ways that your own research could perpetuate racism.

#BlackJourneyToNeuro
Every scientist has their own unique path. We’ll be demystifying some opportunities and resources by highlighting the journeys of panelists at different career stages. Participate by sharing your own story!
Thu, July 30
#BlackNeuroArt
This is a day for celebrating the beauty of #BlackInNeuro! Share your favorite pictures of yourself in the lab, or microscopy, artwork and data visualization you’re proud of. Show us your music, dance, acting skills, and more. Prizes for the most impressive and creative submissions will be given, sponsored by Abcam!
Fri, July 31
#BlackNeuroMentors
Mentorship and outreach are vital components of building up the next generation of scientists. On this day we will showcase Black-led initiatives and highlight mentorship needs of Black trainees. Get in touch with folks who have volunteered to be #BlackNeuroMentors!
Sat, Aug 1
#BlackWomenInNeuro
To spotlight and build community with people whose race and gender have been traditionally marginalized in STEM, we will be amplifying the voices of women, femme, non-binary, and trans Black folks, and hosting a private social to share space, celebrate our existence, and hang out!
Sun, Aug 2
#BlackJoyInNeuro
This day is all about highlighting ways to stay healthy and happy outside of work. In addition to amplifying community submissions of hobbies, habits, and passions, we will share resources from Black mental health professionals on maintaining well-being. To celebrate a week of Black excellence and joy, we’ll be hosting a live dance class too!
Special Thanks to Our Sponsors
Black scientists should always be paid for their labor, even when they are happy to do work for free to support the next generation.
Thus, we are paying our speakers and sincerely thank our generous sponsors and individual donors who help make that possible.
For a full, tiered list of our sponsors and individual donors, view our Sponsor page.
How can I get involved?
Follow our social media accounts and amplify messages that you want to spread! Build connections by following people to continue learning from their perspective. Browse the profiles of people in your field and keep them in mind for collaboration and speaking opportunities! Remember, always make sure to pay #BlackInNeuro speakers and invite them to speak about their research, not just their personal experiences or advocacy. To support our long-term initiatives to support the Black In Neuro community, please consider donating!
If you’re #BlackInNeuro, participate by sharing your stories on social media with each day’s hashtags. Fill out a profile submission form to have your information included on our website so folks can learn about you. We hope the profiles will be a great tool for connecting folks to the #BlackInNeuro community, whether someone is seeking a speaker to invite, or someone to ask for career advice! If you have some additional insight you would like to share with the community, please consider writing a blog post! Simply email us; we’d happily anonymize your submission if requested.
Accessibility: Remember to caption and add alternate text to any images or videos shared on social media to ensure accessibility of #BlackInNeuroWeek to all members of the community.
