Saturday August 1
#BlackWomenInNeuro
In honor of Henrietta Lacks’ birthday, this day will be all about spotlighting people whose race and gender have been traditionally marginalized in STEM. To make their stories and contributions heard, we will be amplifying the voices of all scientists who identify as Black women, femmes, trans, and non-binary folks. We’ll also be hosting a social for members of the #BlackWomenInNeuro, #BlackFemmesInNeuro, #BlackTransInNeuro, #BlackNBinNeuro community to share space and celebrate our existence.
Here’s how to participate:
You can either…
Share a video about your experiences related to being a Black woman, femme, trans, or non-binary person in neuro on Twitter or Instagram using the following prompt.
My name is ____________.
I’m a __insert field here___.
Being a Black *insert marginalized identity here* means that _________.
OR share a tweet (selfie optional) or an Instagram post using the same text as above.
OR submit an anonymous response to us via direct message on Instagram or Twitter, and we’ll do our best to re-share throughout the day.
Make sure to end your post with the hashtags #BlackWomenInNeuro, #BlackFemmesInNeuro, #BlackNBInNeuro, and/or #BlackTransInNeuro AND #BlackInNeuroWeek on Twitter and Instagram, and tag @BlackInNeuro on Instagram. For accessibility, always add alternate text to your images too!
As a special bonus, we’ll be sharing a conversation between one of our organizers, Dr. Brielle Ferguson and Dr. Stacey Dutton, Neuroscientist and Assistant Professor of Biology at Agnes Scott College.
Also, BlackInNeuro women, femme, non-binary and trans folks are cordially invited to join us for our virtual social at 5 PM EST/2 PM PDT to simply have fun, get to know each other and build community.
