Audiovisual Accommodations for Live Events

Most of our live events will be have live, professional captioning and will be recorded. The social events (Saturday’s social and Sunday’s dance class) will rely on autocaptioning.

CART and Recording: Neuroracism Panel, Neuroracism Journal Club, Pre-Grad Panel, Grad Journey Panel, Beyond the PhD Panel, Q&A with filmmaker Sade, Outreach & Mentorship Roundtable
Live ASL interpretation & Recording: Skype a Scientist
Precorded and Captioned: Conversation with Stacey Dutton

On this website, images have overlay captions to deliver the vital information captured, but please let us know if you have constructive comments for improved captioning. To improve readability for the embedded Canva flyers, try expanding the document to full screen. The text should be screen reader compatible, but if not, you can download a PDF of the embedded Canva file, click through to Canva and select PDF as the download option. The pertinent information related to each event is often written on the webpage and text-based profiles are available for most speakers in our Profiles section. If you encounter any difficulties or have any suggestions for improvement, please email us at BlackInNeuro@gmail.com for assistance. We truly appreciate your insight on how to make our website, events, and communications more accessible!

Guidelines for Sharing Content on Social Media

When participating in #BlackInNeuroWeek online, we ask you please remember to write out descriptive alt text for photos so they are accessible for folks using screen readers, and to caption all videos so they're accessible for folks who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Check out this guide to writing good alt text, and apps for captioning videos like Clipomatic or Clips on iOS or AutoCap on Android. Please also capitalize the first letter of each word in a hashtag that combines several words as this improves the ability for screenreaders to interpret the hashtag properly. And here's a general guide to Inclusive Design on social media. If you have any troubles with this or additional suggestions, please feel free to email us at blackinneuro@gmail.com.
