Welcome Message

Video to be released at 9 PT | 12 PM ET | 5 BST

Let's kick off #BlNW24! Check out a brief message from our board of directors about we've been up to and our plans for the upcoming year. We'll also overview some highlights for the upcoming week, so you can make sure you don't miss a thing!

How to Participate

If You’re #BlackInNeuro

  • Film a <1 minute video introducing yourself, and share it on Twitter, Instagram or TikTok using the hashtags #BlackInNeuroRollCall and #BINW24. Tag us @BlackInNeuro if you’d like us to share your video!

    • Consider filming a pop talk, which is an elevator pitch for your research, medical practice, or whatever type of work you do (or hope to do). Remember, make it short (1 minute max) and simple, keeping big words and jargon to a minimum.

    • Please try to caption your videos, to ensure that folks who need captions can benefit from your explanation! Clipomatic is a great captioning app for iOS, and AutoCap is great for Android. If you generate automated captions, remember to proofread them and correct any errors.

Want to post a TikTok (otherwise known as a BINtok!) but don’t know how? Here’s an awesome tutorial by Black In Neuro Social Media Manager, Emmanuella Bassey!

  • Share a selfie on Twitter or Instagram and briefly introduce yourself and your work, using the hashtags #BlackInNeuroRollCall and #BINW24. Tag us @BlackInNeuro if you’d like us to share your post!

  • Start your own social media hashtags to find community. We want to highlight ALL of your intersections, so please add whatever hashtags describe you best to your posts, so that you can connect with members of the BIN fam who share your identities (#BlackDisabledInNeuro, #BlackQueerInNeuro, #BlackEnbyInNeuro, #BlackFirstGenInNeuro, #BlackImmigrantInNeuro, etc.)

  • Share videos and selfies posted by other members of the community!

  • Register as a Black In Neuro member. Members receive access to members-only events, like our SfN social last year, and will have their profiles featured on our member directory, which can be searched when people are looking for speakers, job candidates, interview and podcast guests, mentors, collaborators, and more!! This year, our BINW24 socials are open to all during #BlackJoyInNeuro day.

We can’t wait to introduce you to the world!

If You’re an Ally

  • Search the #BlackInNeuroRollCall and #BINW24 hashtags, and share videos and selfies posted by the Black In Neuro community!

  • Use these hashtags and our member directory to find Black In Neuro scholars next time you or your institution are looking for speakers, job candidates, interview or podcast guests, collaborators, etc.
