How to Participate

If You’re Black In Neuro

  • Use the #BINtersections and #BINW22 hashtag, and start your own social media hashtags to find community! We want to highlight ALL of your intersections, so please add whatever hashtags describe you best to your posts, so that you can connect with members of the BIN fam who share your identities (#BlackDisabledInNeuro, #BlackQueerInNeuro, #BlackEnbyInNeuro, #BlackFirstGenInNeuro, #BlackImmigrantInNeuro, etc.). Tag us @BlackInNeuro if you’d like us to share your post!

    • Please try to caption any videos you post, to ensure that folks who need captions can enjoy your content! Clipomatic is a great captioning app for iOS, and AutoCap is great for Android. If you generate automated captions, remember to proofread them and correct any errors.

    • When posting images, add alt text so people who are Blind or have low vision can participate fully in the community! Learn more about how to add alt text on Twitter and on Instagram.

  • Make sure to register as a Black In Neuro member so that you can participate in our #BINtersections social!

  • Share videos and selfies posted by other members of the community!

  • Take time to reflect on which positions of power and marginalization you hold. How can we uplift the most marginalized within our Black In Neuro family?

  • Consider pitching an article idea

If You’re an Ally

  • Search the #BINtersections hashtag and share posts made by Black In Neuro community members.

  • Consider how diversity, equity, and inclusion are handled at your institution or organization. Are the issues faced by different marginalized groups addressed in isolation? How can you better consider the intersections between social identities, positions, and systems of power, such as race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, and income?
